Quecreek Mine Rescue Anniversary; Museum To Open in Pennsylvania
The Quecreek Mine Anniversary celebration is set for this Saturday and with the celebration will come the opening of a section of the museum.
Actual pieces of the Sipesville Volunteer Fire Company firehouse will be featured in the design. They’re one of the crews who played major role in rescuing the nine miners trapped underground for four days.
Quecreek Mine Rescue Foundation Executive Director Bill Arnold said, “When I walked in the first time after the columns were installed installed I literally had chills all over my body.”
The room will also have everything from the capsuled used to rescue the miners to a news truck used to broadcast from the site.
On July 28, 2002, nine miners were pulled from the Quecreek mine after flooding trapped them, but after many emergency responders banded together they all lived to tell their stories.
The anniversary celebration is set for this Saturday, July 23 at 10 a.m. The event will feature Flight 93 National Memorial Park’s Keith Newlin.
