Harmony Gold Reports Two Fatalities; Bambanani Mine and Doornkop Mine

Harmony Gold reported two fatalities. One fatality on Jan. 29 at the West shaft next to Bambanani mine in the Free State and the other on Jan. 25 at its Doornkop mine near Randfontein

Jan. 29, 2012:
West Shaft Next to Bambanani Mine
Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited reported that an employee was fatally injured yesterday following an accident at West shaft next to Bambanani mine in the Free State. The accident occurred while scheduled maintenance was performed on the West shaft headgear to enable hoisting of ore from the planned Bambanani and Steyn 2 pillar extractions.

All operations under the authority of the relevant appointed general manager have been stopped, namely West shaft, Steyn 2, Bambanani and Unisel, until such time as all investigations into the accident have been completed.

Jan. 25, 2012:
Doornkop Mine Near Randfontein
Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited reported that an employee was fatally injured yesterday following an accident at shaft bottom at its Doornkop mine near Randfontein.

Operations have been stopped until such time as all investigations into the accident has been completed.
