New Joy Mining Machinery Mid-Seam Simultaneous Cut & Bolt Entry Driver Delivers Maximum Productivity
Joy Mining Machinery has released its new 12ED25 mid-seam simultaneous cut and bolt entry driver, with the first unit shipped to a mine in the Western USA. The mine will use the new machine to develop its longwall gate access roads. Designed to deliver increased productivity, longevity, and safety at a lower cost per ton, the new JOY 12ED25 covers seam heights ranging from 8 feet10 inches (2.7 meters) to 15 feet (4.6 meters).
Simultaneous cutting and bolting on the new JOY 12ED25 Entry Driver boosts productivity and significantly improves work flow and roof control via automated cycles. The system can complete a fully automated cutting cycle of up to a 50-inch advance while simultaneously installing up to six roof bolts and eight rib bolts. Cutting cycles can be programmed to suit mine seam conditions and/or to match desired bolting cycles, while minimizing dust output.
Designed for optimum safety and ease of operation, the JOY 12ED25 Entry Driver is equipped with extendable rib protection shields, as well as roof canopies for both roof and rib drill operators. Also, with the ability to increase production and driving rates via semi-mechanized operations, the operator interaction in the working area may be reduced.
For greater longevity, the JOY 12ED25 sump frame is designed with a long-life slide rail and pin mechanism with shims, replaceable wear strips and auto lubrication. This allows the stationary chassis to be pinned to the roof with two temporary roof support cylinders, which reduces floor degradation during the sumping and cutting operations. It is anticipated that this new rugged design will extend wear life prior to the first major rebuild to more than one million raw tons of entry development.
Additionally, two forward-mounted roof bolters are attached to pods with a slide and tilt mechanism to fully cover all roof bolt positions; and two lift and tilt rib bolters are used to place up to four bolts in either rib, while also installing angled and tensioned truss bolts.
The release of the new JOY 12ED25 Entry Driver follows numerous successful installations of the Joy low-seam 14ED25 entry driver throughout the Eastern United States. The design features of the 12ED25 and 14ED25, as well as all motors, gearboxes, traction drives, conveyor drives, sump frame mechanisms, and roof bolting rigs, are common to both machines.
“Beyond the United States, there is a substantial demand for the JOY 12ED25 in Australia, where several orders have already been placed,” says Jez Leeming, Joy global product director for miner bolters and bolting products. “Its design will be specifically adapted to the Australian market to achieve a close bolt-to-face distance, which offers excellent roof control in poor ground conditions,” he adds.
Joy Mining Machinery, a subsidiary of Joy Global Inc., is a global leader in the development, manufacture, distribution and service of underground mining equipment for the extraction of coal and other bedded materials.
