For more than 110 years, LaCrosse has been making high-quality, authentic footwear products that customers know and trust. Anyone who puts in a hard day at work or a great weekend in the woods, be it workers, hunters, firefighters, miners, farmers or anyone else, knows that LaCrosse will provide them with the highest quality pair of boots and a commitment to keep making a product that fits with their way of life.

LaCrosse began manufacturing rubber horseshoes in La Crosse, Wisc., on a patch of land called Indian Hill – ground reputedly owned by “Buffalo Bill” Cody. LaCrosse Footwear Inc. has now been providing performance footwear and apparel to keep people warm, dry, and comfortable since 1897.

Horseshoes soon gave way to rubber-coated fabrics and raincoats, which the company manufactured until 1906, when it switched to rubber footwear. By 1910, LaCrosse was producing recreational, yachting and gymnasium shoes that cost only 64 cents on average.

In 1940, LaCrosse installed the latest conveyorized assembly line equipment and shoemaking machinery, effectively abandoning the concept of hand assembly. The post-war years witnessed exceptionally high production in the La Crosse, Wisc. plant. Annual revenue was close to $7 million.

In 1963, LaCrosse created an innovative, Ankle Fit design that kept tall, heavy-duty rubber boots from pulling loose in mud – a design that also prevented rubbing and chafing. Consolidating its headquarters in Portland, Ore. in 2001, LaCrosse continues to develop and market product innovation that benefits its consumers all over the world.

Today, LaCrosse Footwear Inc. designs, manufactures and markets premium quality rubber, leather and vinyl footwear and rainwear for sporting, recreational and occupational markets under the LaCrosse brand name. Generations of people know that the LaCrosse name is synonymous with superior craftsmanship, the finest materials, and many years of knowledge and proven innovations.

For miners, LaCrosse offers boots in several styles with a wide range of features, including the 10-inch Longwall Metatarsal Leather mining boot.

The Longwall boot was developed in collaboration with miners, for miners and addresses long-standing footwear concerns of the mining industry.

The Longwall offers toe and heel construction with an abrasion defiant, chemical resistant, waterproof, aggressive rubber by Vibram that retains its original shape and won’t stiffen after repeated cleanings.

The Longwall also offers the ultimate defense package developed to exceed ASTM specifications (ASTM F 2413 I/75 C/75 MT/75 EH PR). The boot features a composite safety toe and a Lenzi-L puncture resistant midsole that offer tough protection without the added weight.  The flexible metatarsal guard allows for a full range of movement and ensures proper safety and impact absorption.

In addition, the non-metallic safety toe, midsole, and metatarsal reduce overall heat and cold transfer to the foot when compared to traditional steel components.  With many features such as a Vibram outsole that offers a mining specific tread for traction and stability, a waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX lining, Thinsulate Insulation from 3M, and a triple-stitched, abrasion-resistant upper, the Longwall mining boots, as many miners claim, stand to be some of the toughest, most comfortable, feature-laden leather mining boots on the market.
